WE DID IT ! Tonight, I will be sworn in as
Mayor of Rockford. Thanks to your hard work, volunteer efforts, and financial
contributions, we won the Mayor's race on April 5. This has been the most challenging
fight of my life and victory truly would not have been possible without your efforts.
We won the Mayor's office. Now the challenge continues!
I saw many of you election night at the
Paragon restaurant and the excitement there was awesome. Thank you for your many
congratulatory notes and phone calls. I am sorry that I have not yet had a chance to
personally thank each of you, or return all of your notes, emails, or phone calls.
But please know that I am filled with gratitude for all you have done.
The excitement and energy that carried us
to victory has been amazing. That energy and excitement has been with us during the
last three weeks as I have begun the work of reviewing the staff and structure of the
City. The first order of business is making sure we have the best possible team to
achieve the agenda that the people chose on April 5. We will need that same excitement
and energy over the next four years as we work to achieve our visions and dreams.
The swearing ceremony will commence after
the regular business meeting of the City Council tonight, which starts at 6:00 p.m.
The chambers will be packed so please do not be disappointed if you would like to come,
but cannot find a seat. The meeting will be broadcast on Insight Cable channel 17.
There will also be an informal gathering after the ceremony at the Irish Rose.
Again, I have the utmost respect and
gratitude for the efforts and energy you put out during the campaign. We must have that
same type of effort and energy to make Rockford the great place it can be. In the
future, we will from time-to-time send our email newsletters to advise you of
upcoming events or activities. In the meantime, I look forward working with you
on the opportunities ahead.
