Payson enjoys a laid back lifestyle with beautiful weather set in some of the most scenic locations in Arizona. While many travelers know it as a “pass through” town, the population of 15,000 plus residents call it home. We have access to many parks, lakes and hiking trails and we are home to a full compliment of churches, schools and businesses. We are also within driving distance to the Valley, allowing for potential commuters to make their home here. One of the more unique considerations for Payson, is that it can be a home to summer residents. There needs to be balance and special consideration given to allowing for part-time residents to integrate into our town with minimal disruption. Visitors and residents alike should feel welcomed and appreciated.
An important part of maintaining the lifestyle, while allowing for necessary expansion, is to be sure that the town can support any new venture financially. Financial viability would address the ability of the current infrastructure to support the proposal. Then next it needs to be evaluated on the basis that it enhances the town in terms of improved services, opportunities and beautification. A town must grow to survive and prosper. Responsible growth means it would grow in a planned and thoughtful manner so it enhances the experience of the residents and visitors.
When elected Mayor, my focus will be on major projects or proposals put before the town. I believe that any large project should be put before the town via a ballot. Every resident should have a working knowledge of what is being proposed and should have a voice in terms of a vote. Transparency and communication is key to a fair and open process. Responsible growth will enhance our town, and lifestyle experience and maybe take us from a “pass through,” to a “stay over”town. A Payson we can all be proud of.
